Radio Cab History 1948-49
In 1948, a switchboard was installed in our dispatch, and our first two way radios were installed in our cabs. The radios were not very good, and the fact that all three local cab companies shared the same operating frequency, made matters even worse. We could hear each other calling in or dispatching orders. It wasn’t until 1950, that the F.C.C. granted each cab company their own frequency to operate on.
We increased our fleet to 37 cabs in 1949. The City rejected two permits issued to Beacon Cab because of illegal activities. We applied for the two permits, and they were eventually issued to us.
